Recollection on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary - Friday, October 7, 2016 @4:00pm, Lourdes Chapel (Crypt Level), Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Juventutem DC is glad to announce a Recollection on the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, "The Rosary: Medication Against Spiritual Alzheimer's," by Fr Lawrence Lew, O.P., of the Dominican Province of England. On this day 445 years ago, October 7, 1571, the Christian fleet of the Holy League won a decisive victory over the Ottoman armada at Lepanto, against heavy odds. At the very moment of the victory, the Dominican Pope St Pius V, accompanied by a large throng of faithful, was praying the Rosary in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. In gratitude, the Pope decreed that a feast of Our Lady be kept by the universal Church on October 7 in memory of Mary’s powerful intercession. Join us for this recollection to hear from Fr Lawrence on how the Rosary is an effective ‘medicine’ against  "Spiritual Alzheimer’s” both in our own lives and in our culture.

The Recollection will be preceded by a Low Mass in the traditional Dominican Rite. After the Mass, Fr. Lew will bless rosaries as well as roses according to the traditional Dominican ritual - an ancient tradition on this feast day. Bring either or both with you if you wish to take advantage of this blessing!

Fr Lawrence Lew, O.P. is a son of the Province of England, of the Order of Preachers. Fr Lawrence was ordained in 2011, and has served as assistant Catholic chaplain to Edinburgh University in Scotland. He is currently in his final year of studies for the Pontifical License in Sacred Theology, based at the Dominican House of Studies, before he returns to his Province to minister at the Dominicans’ Rosary Shrine in London. Fr Lawrence has been actively preaching online as a contributor to the New Liturgical Movement, and through his well-known photographs of sacred subjects (see his FlickrTumblr, and Twitter pages).
